* About Flipside *
This is a webcomic about two women: Maytag and Bernadette.
Maytag is a fun loving, free spirited jester girl.
  
Bernadette is a dignified, knightly swordswoman.
  
Their adventures take place in a fantasy world, and magic is their technology.
That's the story description. As for what it's actually about: I was tired of fantasy stories where the conflict was all very basic, good vs evil. I wanted to do a more character focused story. Flipside is mostly about the relationship between the two protagonists, and relationships in general. It's also about conflicts that are not necessarily black and white, and this is where the title comes from. Maytag is a character who seems to be as black and white as her costume, at first, but upon closer examination there are many shades of gray.
I'm also a bit of a contrarian so I like to be different for the sake of being different. Therefore, I try to avoid typical fantasy tropes. There are no dragons, elves, or dwarves... no non-human races at all, in fact. That's not to say that there aren't other kinds of tropes, but I do try to put my own spin on them.
If you look in the archive section, you will see that there are a number of chapters, and that there is a side section called Book 0. That is the original story that I started back in 1999. In 2004 I decided to start the story over with a new entry point, and that is chapter 1 in the main archives. You can start reading at chapter 1 and totally ignore Book 0, the new chapters are written to be freshly read. However, Book 0 is still considered story canon, and there are characters from it that do re-appear in the newer stories, so reading it will enrich your experience with the newer chapters. You may start reading where you like.
